Winners of the 2024 Plein Air Competition

The winners of the Plein Air Competition have been announced for this year's Gloucester Arts Festival. Artists from across the country painted our local scenery... rivers, farmland, marine views, and gardens, competing for over $27,000 in prize money as part of the 2024 Heart of the River Collection. The week culminated with the Plein Air Gala at the Fine Arts Museum of Gloucester. Judge Robert Johnson was on hand to announce the winners and deliver prize money! Congratulations to all the winners for their remarkable talent and dedication to their craft.

First Place $5000 Award: Doug Clarke “Remember These Days”

Artist Choice $5000 Award: Durre Waseem “Chit Chat”

Second Place $2500 Award: Jim Laurino “East Beach”

Third Place $1500 Award: Fred Jackson “Endless Summer”

These represent the Top Four Winners of the competition, however, there were 17 Best of Winners as well as Best in Show for Paint Main, Mathews Paint Out and Cocktails in Garden events. Check them all out at FAMG before the show closes on June 29th at the It’s A Wrap Reception at 4pm!
