Gloucester Arts Festival announces return of Plein Air painting for 2019
Save the month of June. It’s going to be spectacular!
The Gloucester Arts Festival committee announces the return of the Plein Air painting event for 2019. Organized as an artist invitational, over 20 artists from the Mid-Atlantic region are expected to participate. Painting will take place at various scenic spots throughout Gloucester from June 1st through June 6th. These works of art will become a part of the Heart of the River collection that was started in 2017. The 2019 Heart of the River collection will be on display and for sale during the month of June at Arts On Main in the historic Gloucester Village. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on June 7th at 6PM and more details will follow on ticketing for that event. Other events and arts happenings surrounding the plein air painting event are in the planning stages but save the month of June because you won’t want to miss the annual Symphony under the Stars concert by the Virginia Symphony, nocturne paint out by the artists, workshops, demonstrations, additional plein air art at Stewart Gallery and local plein air painting on Main Street for youth to adults.
Popular in summer 2018 was the new addition of the daffodil mural and the Seward Johnson sculptures. For 2019, the committee is planning for more sculptures to line Main Street as well as another mural to the downtown. A new addition to the festival will be a visit by the Art Mobile from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts where patrons can enjoy a museum quality exhibit on site on Main Street.
Don’t just save the date… save the month of June in 2019! The arts abound in Gloucester!
