Gloucester Arts Festival announces return of Plein Air painting for 2019, music events, Seward Johnson sculptures and a new mural on Main Street!
Save the month of June. It’s going to be spectacular!
The Gloucester Arts Festival committee announces the return of the Plein Air painting event for 2019. Organized as an artist invitational, 20 curated artists from the Mid-Atlantic region are expected to participate. Painting will take place at various scenic spots throughout Gloucester from June 1st through June 6th. These works of art will become a part of the Heart of the River collection that was started in 2017. The 2019 Heart of the River collection will be on display and for sale during the month of June at Arts on Main in the historic Gloucester Village. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on June 7th at 6PM and if you wish to be sure you get the opportunity to buy your favorite painting, click here to become a Pre-Purchase Patron. The festival will kick off this year with the 13th annual Symphony under the Stars concert by the Virginia Symphony preceded by a nocturne paint out.
Popular in summer 2018 was the new addition of the daffodil mural and the Seward Johnson sculptures. For 2019, the committee is planning for more sculptures to line Main Street as well as another mural to the downtown that will celebrate our beautiful water and landscape. A new addition to the festival will be a visit by the Art Mobile from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts where the public can enjoy a museum quality exhibit on site on Main Street as well as the Chrysler Museum of Fine Arts Glass Blowing demonstration.
Additional demonstrations and opportunities for watching the artists painting live add to the already robust calendar. Ending the festival on a high note, the committee announces a free concert by the U.S. Fleets Navy Band for June 30th, 4PM.
Don’t just save the date… save the month of June in 2019! We invite you to be awed, inspired and experience how the arts will enrich your life!
